Shantanu is a New York and India qualified attorney with over 20 years of experience. He has lived and worked in India, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong and the UAE, in private practice and as in-house counsel. His international experience and global relationships enable him to navigate cultural differences and secure meaningful local partnerships for his clients as their businesses expand globally.

Shantanu has a broad based set of skills. He has advised clients globally on structuring, negotiating and executing complex cross-border (and domestic) commercial transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, divestments, private equity and venture capital investments, insolvency restructuring, and licensing of intellectual property.

 

He has particular expertise in the pharmaceutical industry. This includes multiple cross-border transactions involving the licensing, distribution, manufacture or co-development of large and small molecule drugs, as well as significant global M&A experience: he has closed USD 550 Mn. in acquisitions in North America, USD 625 Mn. in divestments in Japan and China, and USD 145 Mn. in joint ventures globally.

 

He holds an LL.M from Columbia Law School, New York, and a B.A, LL.B (with a gold medal in Intellectual Property law) from National Law School of India.

 

He’s previously worked with Linklaters, White & Case and Goodwin Procter. He has held leadership positions in the legal departments of pharmaceutical companies and investment funds in India, Dubai and Singapore.

 

Shantanu actively writes and teaches in his free time. He has taught a full credit seminar course on healthcare law at National Law University, Delhi and has also taught classes at the Singapore Management University and National Law University, Odisha. He has been widely published, including in India Business Law Journal, News18 and The Quint. He has a monthly column in the SCC Online Blog’s ‘Experts Corner’.
